A healthy workplace is where employees are supported. Current workplace has lots of information from social media and other sources and can be very toxic if appropriate measures are not put in place.  

 

“Workplace needs empowerment of employees. Many employees are micromanaged. They need to be empowered and supported. They need to see their development needs are taken care of, “ says Robley Ngoje, Head of HR Risk, Governance and Shared Services and immediate former Head of Employee Relations and Wellness, KCB Group.

Mr. Ngoje opined that it is important to understand generations in the workplace. Emerging adults, older adults, younger adults. It is important to understand how each generation operations, understand their strengths, weaknesses and how each group brings unique strengths.

CAUSE OF UNHEALTHY WORKPLACE

Toxic work environment is characterized by lack of recognition, favouritism, unhealthy communication and gossiping.

University Managers were enlightened on the strategies for multigenerational workplace. This includes understanding generational needs, having flexible work arrangements, organizing training and staff development programs, encouraging knowledge sharing, leveraging technology, promoting inclusivity and having wellness programs

In his concluding remarks, he observed that a healthier workplace is inclusive, empathetic and developmentally informed and employees build bridges across generations.
